Applying makeup is part of many women’s daily routine, so it’s easy to fall into a make-
up rut and forget about trying new application tips. You may have heard about ‘contouring
and highlighting’ your face, yet you may also have no idea of what this is about. Contouring and highlighting makeup techniques will help you get that perfect, finished look when applying makeup, allowing you to keep your techniques fresh and up to date.
This is a simple and old application method, however it often gets looked over or forgotten
by most women when applying makeup. You will need a small powder or contouring
brush, a bronzer or brown shadow a liquid highlighter and makeup sponge.
Contouring is the application of makeup in a way which defines the contours of your
face and can give the appearance of a slimmer face, slender cheeks or more prominent
cheek bones. It helps to accentuate the parts of your face you are particularly fond of, and
equally reduce the appearance of your lesser favourite features. Apply the contour colour
directly underneath your cheek bones, beneath your jaw bone, on the sides of your nose
and along your hairline.
Using your makeup sponge, apply a generous amount of highlighter under your eyes,
extending to the tops of your cheekbones and along the sides of your nose. Highlight your
chin, the upper-most part of your jaw (directly below the ear), your brow bone, and the
center of your forehead. You may also highlight your cupid’s bow for a more full, defined mouth.
Contouring and highlighting makeup are great ways to flatter and accentuate all face shapes, and
by applying correctly you can really create a stunning look!
