Vibrant, Energetic, Red Hair!

It’s not a myth that only two percent of the population are naturally blessed with red hair, however this doesn’t mean that the rest of us can’t enjoy this gorgeous, vibrant, energetic hair color! There are plenty of home kits out there to help you to achieve this look and stay on trend. With an array of colors ranging from shades of auburn, magenta, strawberry blonde of orange-red, you’ll be sure to find a red shade that will suit your skin tone and style.

Top hair stylists have advised that in order to choose your perfect red, you need to decide how light, cool or warm you want your red, as there are so many colors and hues out there. When coloring or highlighting to get a red hue, use a brown-based shade to add richness and warmth, and to create more of a natural look. If the brown is already in the hairs pigment underneath the red, this will make the color last longer and shine a warmer red. Choose a red with the same undertones as your skin; for example, if you have yellow undertones opt for a copper shade, as this will compliment your skin and avoid you looking washed out.

Here are the general rules which apply when choosing a suitable red hair color:

Light skin tones
Fair skin works best with light, golden, strawberry blonde and bright copper or reds. Avoid deep reds such as mahogany or burgundy as these shades will risk you looking too pale.

Medium / olive skin tones
Because your skin has more pigments, your hair can too. You can try a medium copper blonde to auburn shades, however try to avoid dark eggplant hues as these can make your skin appear yellow.

Dark skin tones
Auburn and Chestnut shades work gorgeously with dark skin tones. You can experiment with dark reds as these will really compliment your skin pigment.
