Picture Tutorial: Gradient Nails

This one’s for the nail lovers out there. Some of you may have noticed the gradient nail trend that’s been making it’s chic appearance on more and more nails as of late. Curious on how to achieve it? So was I, and now that I’ve perfected my technique I thought I’d share.

What you’ll need:
-a cosmetic sponge
-scissors
-at least 2 nail polish colors (I used 3)
-nail polish remover (to clean excess polish off)

What to do:
1. Cut the sponge about halfway through the length of itself to make 2 halves (this makes 2 new surfaces, one on each half of the sponge, that are now a good width to use on your fingers)
2. Apply 3 generous lines of nail polish onto the new surface of the sponge half you created (it’s okay if the colors overlap)
3. Dab each nail with the painted sponge making sure to blend the colors lightly, by shifting the placement of your dabbing around (try dabbing across each nail in a small zig-zag motion) You should be able to dab one coat onto all 5 nails on one hand before having to reapply nail polish to the sponge. 3 coats is usually enough, but take care to let each layer dry before applying another coating.
4. Finish with topcoat

Have fun & get creative:
Try this technique out with different colors! You can also add any color french-tips, very fast and very easily, using this same concept. Recycle used and already painted on sponges by keeping the ones that still have clean pieces of sponge (enough space for one line of nail polish). Use a line of nail polish on your cosmetic sponge to dab on some quick and easy french-tips, don’t forget to layer, and let dry in between coats!
