These three basic hairstyles that can be worn in different variations, or mixed and matched to create a number of chic and easy hairstyles.
The Bun: The classic bun is a simple style that’s making a huge comeback these days. There are many ways to put your hair up in a bun, but the most common way is to gather your hair atop your head and twist your hair until it begins to coil down so that you are able to wrap it around into a bun. Tuck the ends of your hair into the bun and secure with bobby pins. If you have trouble with that technique, you might find it easier to gather your hair atop your head and then secure it in a high ponytail with an elastic band. Now you will have better control of your hair with the help of the hair tie. Twist your ponytail into a bun and secure with bobby pins. You can wear a bun high, low, messy or to the side, the variations are countless.
The Braid: The most basic braid is the 3 strand braid which is a little bit harder to explain so here’s a video tutorial that explains how. Once you’ve learned the basic braid, the most common next step is to learn how to french braid. This video shows step by step how to french braid. After you’ve mastered the french braid is when the variations and the creative hairstyles come in. French braids are super useful in hairstyling because since you keep adding new pieces of hair to the braid you can easily blend one hairstyle to another. For example, you can add so much flair to a plain old low ponytail by sectioning out the hair from the sides of your face (so that they are not included in the ponytail) then french braid each loose section of hair on either side of your face, wrap each braid around your ponytail, and secure with bobby pins. Voila! 2 hairstyles in one, and a new way to rock a ponytail!
The Ponytail: So basic is this hairstyle that this is probably the first thing you ever learned to do to your hair. Everyone knows how to put their hair in a ponytail right? Well then everyone should know that there’s more ways than one to wear it. I’ve noticed that “basic simplicity” is making its way through the trends right now and the ponytail hairstyle is no exception. This is one of the easiest styles to variate, simply move around the placement of the ponytail, and vary the number of ponytails you use. And just for the record (although I feel like everyone knows how already) to ponytail your hair simply gather all of your hair (or just a portion of it if you’d like to leave some down) and secure hair with an elastic hair band.
So there you have it, the basics to hairstyling at home, and maybe hairstyling period, but in any case, you should master these techniques. Mix and match these 3 techniques to create endless combinations of chic, easy hairstyles. Add even more to your look by accessorizing your hair! Always remember to have fun and be creative with it!
