You may be focused on using fashion and visual styling as ways to stand out this summer, but if you think about it, one of the next things we worry about after our appearance is our smell. Now, I know we all get bored with the perfumes and body sprays we’ve got piled up together with the rest of our “hardly used scent products,” and I know it may feel nice to buy a top of the line perfume that’s just been released to the shelves, because there’s exclusivity to that…but there’s also exclusivity, and an equally nice feeling, when you create your own signature scent at home.
Everyday, all over the world, hardly used perfumes, lotions and body sprays get discarded after their owner has grown tired of their scent. Let’s take a moment of silence, because that is a pitiful waste. If only more people thought to use all those different scented products together. If only they stopped to think about mixing and matching and layering the different scented lotions and perfumes to create their own unique, signature scents. Well this article is my attempt at raising awareness to this wasteful cosmetic epidemic. So before you go off and buy a new fragrance, look to your collection. Smell everything and find scents that compliment each other. You can layer the scents by spraying your pulse points, allowing the first scent to dry, and then spraying the same areas with the next scent. You can also opt to use varied placement of the scents instead by spraying different scents on different areas, which is what I usually do. I’ll spray the back of my hand with one scent and my wrist with another, and if I want to add more scents I can apply them to my neck, or inside of my elbows and behind my ears. The options are plenty as you’re able to make your scent as subtle or complex as you want!
Here are a few of my favorite blends to give you an example:
- Pink Sugar perfume by Aquolina + Imogen Rose perfume by Gorilla Perfumes for LUSH = the soft smell of candied rose petals (pictured)
- Vanilla Bean Noel lotion & body spray by Bath & Body Works + Angel perfume by Thierry Mugler = a seductively intoxicating drunken vanilla
- Flowerbomb perfume by Viktor & Rolf + Paris Amour body spray by Bath & Body Works = a clean, velvety sweet floral bouquet
